Last week’s Lets Roll New York session took place on 5/22/10 at the new Pier 62/Hudson River skatepark. The park was filled with a ton of skaters making it impossible to catch everything that went down but here are a couple of the big tricks that went down last Saturday. The edit includes Angelo Ferrer, Arismendy Canela, Dave Lang, Guillaume Latrompette, James Perez, Jordan Baez, Ludovic Bruggeman, and Maxime Kind.
The Art of Rolling posted an edit from the new Hudson River/Pier 62 skatepark with an official word from the owner of the new skatepark. If you want to keep the park open from 9:00AM till dusk without any supervision then basically, wear your helmet!
“It’s incredibly important that we educate the skate community in that the helmet rule at the new Pier 62 Skatepark is mandatory and necessary. As we discussed, we really want the current set-up of the skatepark to work as an unsupervised park so that it can remain open for greater hours of the day — and months of the year. Ensuring that all participants follow the Park Rules is essential to making that happen. I fear that if the rules are not followed and we start to see more incidents, accidents or people not following the rules — mainly the “Helmets Are Required at All Times” rule — the staff here may want to revert back to a supervised facility, which will then, in turn, restrict the hours in which it is open” – Pier 62.
Last week’s session was a warm up for this week’s LRNY session where the Create Originals team will be attending and the owners will be giving away a free set of frames and $100 cash to the best trick of the day. With the smooth cement, variety of obstacles, and abundant transitions, you find yourself lacing the whole park in one run. Pier 62 is filled with your favorite obstacles and a variety of coping styles for all types of rollerbladers. The park also evokes a creative mind when piecing together tricks for a line. Pier 62 is city owned and funded, so the entrance is free. The park doesn’t require any padding, and has proven to be a great place to skate or just enjoy the view on the Hudson River. Best of all, it’s located on the West Side Highway, which is close to several of NYC’s most famous street spots…” (more…)
