New York City Rollerblading Industry Meeting

March 6, 2009

Wednesday night there was a meeting held at the Haven Arts gallery in the Bronx, NY (speaking of, if you’re looking for a warm place to skate from 6pm-10pm you should go and session the box and prails there.) where most of the companies based in New York discussed what the future holds for rollerblading in our area. A lot of important issues were brought up and decisions were made to help everyone stay in contact with each other and use each of our resources to not only help ourselves individually but to help our community and to bring back New York as a major staple in the rollerblading industry. Besides our discussion, Chris and Courtney Brown of B. Unique, gave us a preview of their Freestyle Rolling campaign which honestly will change every naysayers mind and will hopefully unite us and give us one definitive term. I would go into more detail but I wouldn’t do it justice. They also gave us a sneak peak of what they’re personally working on to help our community. As well, photographer Angelo Ferrer gave out a few copies of his newly printed magazine where he’s showcasing all of nyc’s best rollerbladers using his exclusive photography skills. Pictures from the meeting/presentation below along with a few before/after session pics.

Trevor Johnson Wins the Boogie Down Show Down Invitational

February 22, 2009

Tonight (or last night) was the Bronx, NY competition “Boogie Down Show Down Invitational” which was one of the sickest events in New York rollerblading history. If you were not there, you missed out on something truly special that hopefully will happen again soon. All of New York came out and shared their love for rollerblading and supported their fellow rollerbladers who competed. There was a huge sense of camaraderie and brotherly love amongst everyone and for the first time in a long time all of New York was united. Unfortunately as with any big crowd there were some bad seeds that decided to rummage through peoples belongings and steal what wasn’t theirs. Besides that slight sense of negativity, some truly amazing stunts were done by literally everyone who competed. There was not one person who entered the invitational that did not deserve to be there. But with any competition there could only be one winner and if you couldn’t tell by the title or the picture above, that winner happened to be Trevor Johnson. Trevor not only won the overall competition, but also won best trick, which were both well deserved. His consistency, trick vocabulary, and caliber of tricks could not be matched by any other competitor. Besides Trevor’s double win there were so many other amazing things that happened such as Jesus Medina’s and Alex Nunez’s one on one battle for a spot in the finals. Coverage of the competition and full story will be up soon. Thanks to the sponsors for making this event possible, Ray Mendez (Skate Life Pro-Motion), Victor Callender (Wheels In Motion NYC), Navin Hardyal (Skeptic Media) and of course the Haven Arts gallery for allowing us to have this event.

If you have any pictures/edits of the competition please send it to our Submit Your News page so we can spotlight your work.
